Identifying & Approving Road Assessment Projects
The process begins when either a resident or a homeowner’s association makes a request to our office for improvements to their existing roadways.
- Qualified project coordinators preform inspections of the associated roadway & outline their findings in an official report to our office.
- This report also includes the professional recommendation for the any applicable improvements.
- The individual or group who made the request is invited to review the report to determine whether the process should more forward to the petition step.
Continuing To the Petition Step
- Our office will mail a petition to all property owners within the assessment area.
- Our mailing includes a self-addressed, stamped envelope for convenient return.
- Petitions are opened & counted 60 days after the date of the mailing.
- The clerk's auditing department counts the petitions & prepares an official report of their findings.
Majority Votes In Favor of the Project
- A local engineer or engineering firm is retained to evaluate the project.
- This individual or firm then recommends the type of construction necessary to complete the project & develops construction plans to complete the project.
- These same plans are then provided along with a scope of work to Procurement Services.
- Procurement Services conducts a bidding process for the project as mandated by state law.
- A final public hearing is scheduled.
- During this final public hearing, county staff present the proposed project to the county commission & public comment is recorded.
- The county commission then publicly discusses approving or denying the project.
