Required training
Within six months of appointment, advisory board members must complete the below listed trainings. Training is mandatory once every term for advisory board members.
Upon completion of the online training, you are required to complete this acknowledgement form & submit it to the commission office, 601 SE 25th Ave., Ocala, FL 34471 or via email at CommissionAdmin@marionfl.org.
Note: Similar training from another organization or government agency may qualify for county advisory boards! Contact the commission office at 352-438-2323 or email advisoryboards@marionfl.org, for more information.
Training
This online training consists of watching all of the following videos completely.
Voting conflicts (55 minutes)
Apply the voting conflicts statute to local officers to discuss differences in voting conflicts at the state & local level. Discover the circumstances in which a voting conflict for a local officer will not be found. This presentation also covers how local officers should respond if a voting conflict is presented.
Gifts for local government officials (45 minutes)
Learn about laws which pertain to gifts, things of value, & payment given for professional services that are rendered nominally without charge & how these apply to local government officers & employees. This presentation also discusses what gifts may be accepted, what is prohibited & what must be reported.
Code of ethics (98 minutes)
Explore the code of ethics for public officers and employees. Learn more about Florida's public meetings & records laws as applicable to members of the legislature. This video was originally created for members of the senate, & can be useful to many others.
Training completion
This form must be submitted to the advisory board office upon completion of all above-listed videos.
