The 911 Management department plays a vital role in providing the residents of Marion County with emergency rescue services. This department oversees the county’s addressing system, which includes the naming of roads as well as assigning numbers to houses and businesses.
When new homes, businesses and road infrastructure are added to Marion County, 911 Management records this information in the GIS mapping system that dispatchers in the Communications Center use to send help when someone calls 911.

Marion County Building Safety strives to ensure the health, safety and public welfare of the built environment in Marion County by enforcing the Florida Building Code & related county ordinances in an efficient & cost-effective manner. To ensure a safe built environment, the department issues permits, reviews plans, verifies contractor licenses & performs inspections for each project.

County Commission

The county commission is the primary legislative & policy-making body for Marion County. Each commissioner represents one of the county's five districts & reside in the district they represent. The county commissioners are elected by all county voters to serve a four-year term. The county commissioner elects a chairman & vice chairman each year.
The commission meets on the first & third Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the McPherson Governmental Campus auditorium, 601 SE 25th Ave., Ocala. During these public meetings, commissioners hear & vote on a variety of issues. Whether enacting ordinances & resolutions or approving budgets & expenditures, this board has the responsibility to provide for the safety & welfare of all Marion County residents & visitors.

Our department coordinates the planning, design & construction of all proposed county-owned facilities & maintains more than 300 existing county-owned & leased structures. Totaling more than three million square feet, these include office buildings, fire stations, the clerk of the court, judicial center, state attorney’s office, public defender’s office, the supervisor of elections office, county libraries, county park structures, county jail facilities and sheriff’s office operations center & substations.
We are responsible for building maintenance & repairs, minor renovations, custodial services, construction management, energy management & ADA & safety standard-compliance. We also employ consistent preventive maintenance techniques to ensure the smooth operation of mechanical systems & the most conservative use of energy possible.
Fire Rescue

Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) is a progressive, professional fire rescue department dedicated to the health, safety & well-being of the community, providing excellent service, education & prevention in partnership with the citizens of Marion County.
Marion County Fire Rescue is a multifaceted organization that aims to keep the public informed at all times regarding the department’s performance, safety issues & concerns affecting the community & local medical and fire incidents.
Additionally, each year MCFR embarks on several public education campaigns in an effort to teach children about fire safety, educate the community about water safety & help prevent emergency situations due to falls. These initiatives typically include the annual Fire Safety Month campaign that takes place each October during which MCFR crews visit more than 30 schools across the county to share life-saving information about how to prevent fires & what to do if they should ever be involved in a structure fire.

Fiscal Review develops, evaluates & revises budgetary needs for Marion County government.
Year-long activities include:
- Developing strategic and business plans for each county department using performance & benchmark data.

Fleet Management

Our department provides total repair service for the county’s 1,400 vehicles and equipment from one central location. Most work, including preventive maintenance, is performed in house.
Labor-intensive repairs such as major engine and transmission work, work requiring special tools & work requiring special certification are outsourced to maximize cost-effectiveness, efficiency and safety.
We have also earned the nationally distinguished National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Blue Seal of Excellence designation.

Our department works with residential groups to procure services or resources in subdivision areas where property owners would like to see improvements.
We are responsible for the implementation & management of more than 50 MSTUs & MSBUs within Marion County as well as the employees at each of these locations. Through road improvements programs, our teams have been able to assist in the paving of more than 600 miles of roadway within subdivisions in the county.

Through the Ocala/Marion County Visitors & Convention Bureau, we lead markets and grow Marion County’s travel & tourism industry. Founded in 2004, the bureau enhances the local economy by using innovative & efficient methods that attract visitor dollars & contribute to Marion County’s recognition as a viable vacation destination.
The bureau is funded by a four-percent tourist development tax collected on transient accommodations. The Marion County Board of County Commissioners & the nine-member, volunteer Tourist Development Council oversee the application of these funds to attract leisure & business travel to the community.
