Marion County Fire Rescue (MCFR) is a progressive, professional fire rescue department dedicated to the health, safety, and well-being of the community. Our sets a high bar for providing excellent service, education, & prevention in partnership with the citizens of Marion County.
We are is the second-largest fire rescue department north of Orlando & is more than 500 employees strong with a $52.8 million budget & 31 fire stations. Our full-time, state-certified firefighter/paramedics, firefighter/EMTs, EMTs, & paramedics serve nearly 400,000 citizens. We respond to & assist with Marion County's 1,600 square miles as well as areas within surrounding counties on an as-needed basis. Our crews respond to an average of 210 emergency responses each day.
Emergency Response
As emergency response professionals, we develop & maintain skills & equipment to respond to a variety of emergencies, including:
- Fires involving structures, brush & vehicles
- Medical emergencies (cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, & trauma)
- Vehicle accidents (extrication, multi-modal, railroad, single & multi-vehicle)
- Hazardous material incidents
- Natural disasters
The ambulance transport services added to our county's protection methods in October 2008 have proven to be an invaluable asset to our department's capacity to serve our citizens & visitors.

Training & Community Support
When not responding to 911 calls, our crews train for worst-case scenarios & give back to the community by supporting charitable projects such as:
- Holiday toy & clothing drives
- “Operation Stuff the Bus" campaigns held on behalf of our community's homeless children
- Breast cancer awareness
- Special events to assist local families during times of need
About our department
We are a department of county government, accountable to a county administrator, five elected commissioners, & nearly 400,000 residents, all with various perspectives. Our leaders approach stakeholders with immediacy, believing that when citizens have easy access to information, they can lead healthier, safer lives.
