Springs Header

How does a spring form?

A spring forms when water rises to the surface because it is under pressure from both the land above & the water stored in the aquifer.

What produces the flow of a spring?

The flow of water coming out of a spring depends on things like rainfall, the size of the boils through which the spring pops up, & water pressure in the aquifer. Human activities can also affect spring flow.

What slows the flow of a spring?

When groundwater is pumped out faster than it can get back to the aquifer, spring flow can decrease. This can also happen in times of drought. That is why it’s important not to waste water in our daily activities.
