On Aug. 17, 2010, the Marion County Board of County Commissioners adopted county ordinance 10-19 regulating the maintenance of abandoned and vacant properties in foreclosure within the unincorporated geographical limits of Marion County, Florida.
Marion County government and Code Enforcement strive to partner with mortgagees on vacant properties to avoid declining property values. This cooperation can provide tremendous help to our communities.
The county ordinance requires a MORTGAGEE to register property with Code Enforcement during the foreclosure process. The MORTGAGEE must maintain any property within the foreclosure process.
All registrations require an annual registration fee of $125 per property, and also requires a MORTGAGEE to provide the following information:
- Owner or agent's phone number and mailing address within the state.
- Certify that the property has been inspected.
- Designate and retain an individual or property management company responsible for the security and maintenance of the property. This designation must state the individual or company name, phone number, and local address.
- There are additional requirements for posting, please read the code and become familiar with the requirements.
All violations of the ordinance shall be presented to the Code Enforcement Advisory Board where fines may be levied.
If you have any questions, please contact Code Enforcement at 352-671-8900 or email us. Thank you in advance for working with us to make Marion County a great place to live, work and play.
