Safe Boating Event

In recognition of National Safe Boating Week, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary (in partnership with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Fire Rescue, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission) will be hosting a Safe Boating event.  Representatives from participating agency’s will discuss safe boating practices related to their field of expertise. They may also have some of their equipment available for display, weather permitting.

The purpose of this event is to promote safe boating practices to keep boating enthusiasts and the general public safe while enjoying their water activities.

Handouts on various aspects of boating safety will be available including:

  • Selecting and wearing the proper personal flotation devices
  • Florida Recreational Boating Requirements
  • Children and Personal Watercraft
  • Safe Boating Tips for Anglers, Hunters, and Campers

Wearing the appropriate life jacket has been proven to save lives. The majority of boating accident victims that involved drowning were not wearing a life jacket.

Free vessel safety checks will be provided upon request.  A 2014 Vessel Safety Check sticker will be affixed to all boats which have successfully passed their check.

Attendees may sign up for future boating safety classes conducted by the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Any organization wishing to sponsor a class may do so by emailing Flotilla15-3@uscgaux-fl.org.
